Aim of the course:
This course serves as the entry point to the MOOC Introduction to AR/VR/MR/XR, establishing a common conceptual reference that supports the progression of all subsequent courses in the learning pathway.
This course introduces VET teachers and trainers to the fundamentals of Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR) and Extended Reality (XR). It explains the main concepts, technologies and pedagogical applications of XR, focusing on how these tools can enhance learning in technical and vocational contexts.
Participants will explore the differences and connections between AR, VR, MR and XR, analyse examples of use in VET and reflect on how to select appropriate XR solutions for their own teaching and training environments.
Main ideas:
- Clarifying core concepts and terminology: AR, VR, MR and XR.
- Understanding the technical principles behind extended reality technologies.
- Exploring how XR can support engagement, visualisation and experiential learning in VET.
- Analysing opportunities and limitations of XR in practical and safety-related training.
- Reflecting on criteria for choosing XR tools that are pedagogically relevant and feasible.
