Augmented Reality (AR) for prefabrication with wood

Aim of the course:

This course applies the development and adaptation principles introduced earlier in the MOOC to a specific vocational sector, focusing on the use of Augmented Reality in timber prefabrication training.

It introduces how AR can be used as a pedagogical support tool to enhance the teaching and learning of prefabrication and assembly processes in wood-based construction. The course addresses step-by-step guidance, component identification, safety procedures and quality awareness as key learning dimensions supported by AR.

Participants will be supported in analysing, selecting and integrating AR-based solutions into VET programmes for timber prefabrication, contributing to effective, safe and sustainable training practices aligned with the green and digital transition.

Main ideas:

1. Understanding timber prefabrication processes and identifying where Augmented Reality can add pedagogical value to vocational training, particularly in relation to assembly logic, component identification, quality awareness and safety procedures.
2. Analysing key AR use cases in timber prefabrication from a training and teaching perspective, focusing on how they can support learner-centred pedagogies and the acquisition of technical and procedural skills.
3. Supporting VET teachers and trainers in the integration of AR-based activities into training programmes, linking them to learning outcomes, assessment strategies and the evolving professional role of trainers in digital and technology-enhanced learning environments.
